Classical Figure Drawing

drawing-3copyThe Classical Figure Drawing class is designed to teach the Sight Size technique. This approach helps create a more trained eye and is a wonderful practice for developing confidence and accuracy in your figure drawing.

The technique is built on viewing the model and your artwork simultaneously from a selected position so that both images appear the same size. Use of tools such as mirrors, plumb line, straight edges and very sharp leads and charcoal are important in carrying out these techniques. The student progresses at the teacher’s discretion through the traditional stages of drawing and materials. You begin in your first stage with pencil and progress through the use of charcoal. The student is introduced to the study of nature and geometry as applied to art as well as balance and harmony of form and line. These methods generally take at least six months to really see all of the skills that you are developing come together. It is a challenge to most artists and requires leaving previous experience behind momentarily while you open yourself to learn to see in a completely different way.

Class is suitable for beginning and intermediate levels.

An interview is required for class acceptance. Skype is available. Please contact our office manager at to set up time and date with the Director. There is a $50 registration fee for first time students
